FAQ
What contrast ratio do I need for WCAG compliance?
WCAG 2.x requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text (AA) and 3:1 for large text (18 pt / 24 px, or 14 pt bold). AAA raises the bar to 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.
How is the best text color chosen?
We compute the contrast ratio of your background against black, white and two same-hue tints, then rank them. The highest-ratio option is shown as the most readable pick.
Is a high contrast ratio always better?
For body text, yes — up to a point. Pure black on pure white (21:1) can cause eye strain in long reading sessions; many designers aim for 7:1–15:1 with slightly softened blacks.
