Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression uses the Canvas API built into your browser. Nothing is sent to any server — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Which format should I choose?
WebP gives the smallest files at the same visual quality and is supported by all modern browsers. Choose JPEG for maximum compatibility with old software, or PNG if you need a lossless result with transparency.
What quality setting is best?
80% is the sweet spot for most photos — visually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size. For thumbnails or avatars, 60–70% is usually fine.
Why did my PNG get bigger?
Photos saved as PNG are already inefficient. Convert them to WebP or JPEG instead — the same image is typically 5–10× smaller with no visible difference.
