Remove Background Without Uploading
Cut the background out of a photo with AI that runs entirely on your device. Unlike online background removers, your picture is never sent to a server.
How it works
- Open this page — the AI model downloads once and is cached for future visits.
- Drop in the photo you want to cut out; it is read straight from your device.
- Wait a few seconds while the model segments the subject locally.
- Download the transparent PNG — nothing was uploaded at any point.
When this helps
- Cutting out ID photos, employee badges or portraits that must not leave your device.
- Preparing product shots for a storefront without handing images to a third party.
- Removing backgrounds on a metered or restricted network where uploads are impractical.
- Extracting people or objects from personal photos before compositing them locally.
Limits and notes
- The first run downloads the AI model, so it needs some time and bandwidth.
- Fine hair and complex edges may need a manual touch-up afterward.
- Very large images take longer because inference runs on your own hardware.
How local background removal works
Popular background removers upload your photo to a cloud API. This page takes the opposite approach: a segmentation model compiled to WebAssembly runs in your browser tab. Open the network panel in your developer tools while it works — the only download is the model itself, and your image never goes upstream.

FAQ
Is this really free? What's the catch?
No catch: the AI model runs on your device (WebAssembly), so there are no server costs to pass on. The trade-off is a one-time ~40MB model download and a few seconds of local compute.
Are my photos uploaded for processing?
Never. Unlike remove.bg-style services, your photo doesn't travel anywhere — the model comes to your photo, not the other way around.
What images work best?
People, products and objects with clear subjects. Fine hair and semi-transparent objects are the hard cases — check the edges before shipping.
